Airway Optimization

A more complete approach to how you breathe

Why It Matters

Breathing is foundational

to how we sleep, think, and feel each day. When the airway is restricted, the effects often go far beyond the mouth, impacting sleep quality, energy, focus, and long-term health.

At Sweet Truth Dental, airway optimization is approached as a whole-system process. Rather than treating isolated symptoms, we look at the structure, function, and habits that influence how air moves through the body, beginning at the mouth and extending through the entire airway.

Why it matters

The way the jaws develop, how the tongue rests, and how we breathe each day all shape the airway over time.

When space is limited or function is compromised, it can contribute to:

  • Mouth breathing

  • Snoring or disrupted sleep

  • Daytime fatigue or brain fog

  • Jaw tension and clenching

  • Poor oxygenation during sleep

These patterns are often subtle, and frequently overlooked, but they can have a meaningful impact on overall well-being.

Our Approach

We take a collaborative, individualized approach to airway health, working closely with physicians and allied providers when needed.

Every patient begins with a comprehensive evaluation designed to understand both structure and function.

This may include:

  • Advanced 3D imaging to assess airway volume and anatomy
  • A detailed intraoral and functional exam

  • At-home sleep testing to better understand breathing patterns during rest

From there, we develop a treatment plan that is tailored, measured, and designed to support long-term improvement.

Treatment pathways

Airway optimization is not one-size-fits-all. Treatment is selected based on your unique anatomy, symptoms, and goals.

OPTIONS MAY INCLUDE:

Myofunctional Therapy

A guided program that retrains the muscles of the tongue, lips, and face to support proper breathing and stability.

Aligner Therapy
Strategic use of clear aligners to expand and optimize arch form, creating more space for the tongue and improving airway support.

Oral Appliances
Custom devices designed to reduce airway obstruction, support nighttime breathing, and improve sleep quality.
